Hands-on teaching

I was introduced to teaching through fieldwork. I've taught data collection and small handling protocols to dozens of scientists, including interns working under me and students participating in field work for the first time as a class. Field work comes with plenty of challenges, including long days, rough terrain, and extreme temperatures, but it comes with the ultimate reward: getting to know habitat and species on an intimate level most people never experience. I love watching young biologists experience that for the first time and take my roll in teaching them how to safely and effectively conduct science seriously.
